Merkel effs up in Ukraine and now wants the "west" to feel threatened by Putin so that the west could save Merkel's face on the cheap

Anyone who has seen a fragmented country - neighbor pitted against neighbor, friend turned into enemy - knows the score of what is happening in Ukraine. It's a charge into the valley of darkness and despair.   The fact is that the majority of humans, minus the wackos, pedophiles, and serious killers, are essentially the same. But we're given labels, manipulated, and exploited by a few for their greedy gains and evil whims. This might be a game to Washington DC, Brussels, and the Kremlin, but it's agony for the multitude of Ukrainians (who don't make convenient headlines for the press). The Ukrainian politicos in Kiev should not be surprised if they're sold out in a power compromise between the international power brokers. This is why the idea of superpowers and supra-states is dangerous, just like big corporations and big data. Centralization of power, and the contests it creates, always leads to bad results.
