"It defies belief that Poland and others are still keen on joining the economic doomsday machine of the single currency"
No.....What defies belief is not that they may wish to join, but that they may still be allowed to do so. The EU if it contains any semblance of self awareness should by now have come to understand that it has a problem in trying to operate a single currency in the way it does. That problem being manifest by the broadening economic malaise in Europe and the growing political risk arising from it.
One might think therefore that the EU might at this juncture wish to pause and rectify the problem it has before it spreads it net and brings into the fold new 'meat' that will simply feed the problem for the future.
One of the main things that makes the human race superior to other species in it's ability to survive is we learn through iteration. When we do something wrong we figure out what it was and adapt doing something differently next time so that we do not simply perpetuate all of our previous mistakes. The EU in considering expansion without first learning from it's current litany of mistakes and problems promises to continue to do the same thing expecting a different outcome. Begs the question then if it cannot learn from it's mistakes is it even 'human'? !
Certainly when I consider the behaviour of individuals like Wolfgang Schaeuble I find myself thinking of the cult film "Terminator". What did you say Wolfgang? "I'll be back".
Yes,that's what we are all afraid of.

NOW, about Cyprus ...Cyprus has been destroyed by the EURO, the TROIKA and its own Cypriot politicians....Europe is a mess because of the liberal elitist puke scum that want to destroy SOVEREIGNTY / CULTURE / RELIGION...Even the Archbishop see this....Cyprus, like all the European Countries , needs leaders that love their country.

It is a sign of the times when I find myself agreeing with the Archbishop and must acknowledge he is the only Cypriot offering leadership. Today he put the Church's resources at the disposal of the Cypriot people. His exact words were 'no one will starve'. A 'Christian' acting like a christian for once instead of chanting meaningless words and dogma.

Just as in the UK, church and state are clashing. This is a by-product of the one party system created by blind, mindless adherence to the EU and obedient passing over of authority to foreign rulers.

In its urge to destroy nations and create regions, the EU is dismantling more than just legislatures turning them into regional councils, it is undermining the roots of society.

If you wish to dominate a nation, you must first disarm its citizens. The EU thought to reduce the value of votes to nothing and has largely succeeded in this ambition but it has set a train of events in motion which it cannot control; the engine which performed the first duty is running on and destroying the fabric of the societies which the nation states served.

The EU has behaved like a small child with its father's loaded gun; and has absolutely no idea of the danger of its behaviour. It is a primitive, arrogant and blind system and its elemental and manipulative dishonesty is backfiring. It thought to light a bonfire of nation states and nationalities but the flames have spread and shall soon consume the arsonists.

Never was political ambition so arrogant and never was so much damage done by liars in lounge suits.

As a God botherer - this guy has my respect

Expose the venality at the heart of the EU. Merkel's re-election is coming at a hell of a price

Holger used to warm up for The Smothers Brothers – had them rolling in the aisles, such a card! Himmler’s ring might work, the real thing though, not the Lowell George version..

Thanks, I’ll check it out. Meanwhile here’s a limerick:

There once was a German called Merkel
Who kept going round in a circle
To take all the money from lands that were sunny
And disappear back down her wormhole.

Somewhere, George Orwell is spinning in his grave – although he wouldn’t be even remotely surprised by the 1984-style nonsense being hailed as a compromise by the Troikanauts (above) and Nicosia’s embarassed leaders.

This is the deal: the levy is called something else scrapped, and none of the deposits below €100,000 will be stolen included.

The new lunacy idea sees Laiki Bank closed. The entirety of its €4.2bn in deposits over €100,000 will be placed in a “bad bank”: why you would put healthy deposits in a bad bank eludes me, but we’re really just moving the stash around here: the bad bank’s resources will be confiscated. We’re talk a 100% haircut for all these savers.

And don’t be fooled by the Berlin propaganda about Russian money-laundering. First up, being a rich Russian doesn’t automatically make you a crook; and secondly, nowhere near all – possibly under half – are Russian anyway: UBS, several Israeli banks, a number of French banks will have depositor’s money taken out of them to pay for the ambitions of Brusels-am-Berlin.

ENTER THE WORLD'S FIRST OPERATIONAL BITCOIN ATM

Upon examination of the marketplace and many discussions with Justin O’Connell (TDV Newsletter & Gold Silver Bitcoin), as well as another key strategic partner of ours, I have decided to move forward with what I believe could be the next multi-billion dollar business venture: Bitcoin ATM.

But that isn’t all. It is wholly our intention at Bitcoin ATM to put the company in the right position to open its very first ATM in Cyprus. If we did this now, and we are moving quickly to make this so, we would be the only functioning ATM on the island.

How do I know this is such a good idea? Just look at what Bloomberg recently wrote about Bitcoin as currency:

One place where it’s not safe is in Bitcoin. Bitcoin is generally referred to as a “digital currency” or “virtual currency,” a form of cash that doesn’t need government backing. Unfortunately it’s missing the most essential aspect of money: it’s not useful for buying anything. Bitcoin’s rise as a tool for financial speculation underlines the failure of the virtual currency idea.

As Dollar Vigilante readers will know, I take issue with a number of assumptions in this paragraph. For instance, no economic law exists (in the real world) which stipulates that cash needs government backing. Also, I have found that Bitcoin is useful for many things, not the least of which are the many things we accept Bitcoin for here at TDV Media, such as TDV Offshore, TDV Passports, TDV Newsletter, TDV Homegrown, and Get Your Gold Out Of Dodge.

The Cypriot president, Nicos Anastasiades, will introduce 12 measures to relieve the crisis, to be implemented over the next six months. In a plan reminiscent of Spain's project to create a EuroVegas gambling resort on farmland near Madrid, Cyprus wants to put forward legislation to allow its own casinos. This would be a public policy reversal for the island, which only last year banned online casinos and exchange betting.

Other measures include: forcing the housing department of housing to license development projects within at least 30 days; exempting company profits reinvested in Cyprus from tax; encouraging banks to lend for longer terms at lower rates; compelling businesses to ensure at least 70% of staff are Cypriot; finding ways to cut the cost of electricity; and nudging landlords to reduce rates with the threat of urgent interim measures if they do not respond.

Repeating "black" history with economic means. To the hell Merkel, Hollade, Cameron and the whole EEC pack of wolves
